Last month, we shot the eclipse totality for the film Bless in the remote Sandhills region near Tryon, Nebraska. I was awestruck and humbled by the vision and the experience... . . . . . . #greatamericaneclipse #thegreatamericaneclipse #eclipse #eclipse2017 #blessthisfilm #blessismore #sandhills #nebraska
TB to last month, in the deep darkness of the Nebraskan Sandhills: I was driving late at night after scouting locations to film the eclipse totality for the film "Bless". I was driving on an isolated highway and saw the blackness of a storm spread out in front of me as the sunset. The lightning started not long after the sun set and lit up the absolute darkness of the landscape. As I drove into it, it did not relent and the intensity grew. It shook the vehicle back and forth. And I imagined I could smell the burn of the electricity. I was exhausted and totally alone. Not a single car had passed me. I was unsure if I should go forward or turn around or pull over. I decided to continue on. To drive through the storm. To allow what was to come to come. It was terrifying and also exhilarating. I've never experienced anything quite like it. Here is a video of the beginning of the drive. (If you listen to it, you can hear me humming to myself as a way to alleviate my terror.)
#thegreatinvisible returns #tgi001 🌕🌑
Eight years ago, I had the privilege of voting for the first black president of the United States of America, and this morning, I had a similar experience as I filled in my circle for Hillary Clinton. I felt such deep joy and hope for our beautiful country. During the 1992 election, I was given a children's weekly news letter to take home from school which contained an interview with Hillary Clinton. I showed it to my mother, and after reading it, my mother decided that she would vote for Bill Clinton because of Hillary and the example that she would set for her daughters. I am the woman I am today because of women like Hillary Clinton and men like Barack Obama, who have worked patiently and persistently at breaking through the invisible glass structures that disempower and imprison all of us. I truly believe that love trumps hate.
